Celebration

Today was the day we officially got our beach back. It has been closed off for just over 18 months while improvements were made to the sea wall and mile long (1.8km) promenade.

The official opening (the boring bit) took place at 1:30 when a plaque was uncovered. Then at 2pm, at the south end, the Army Reserves fired a big gun across the waters and the unofficial part of the celebration continued.

One rowing boat with 4 rowers and a helmsman set out to row the distance.
Two swimmers from the Wild Sea Swimmers group swam the distance.
Six runners from the Glenrothes Triathlon Club ran the distance along the beach.
Kirkcaldy and District Pipe Band led members of the public along the promenade itself. Maybe a couple of hundred hardy souls made the pilgrimage.

The weather was a typical cold, windy and cloudy December day.
