Long Slow Distance

Silent letters

The building where I live used to be a printing company, and the Georgian facade bears the name in gold-painted lettering, itself a very attractive feature, and typical of other enterprises in Lewes.

However, in the little storeroom that houses the meters for the apartment building, and the communal washing machine, these rusting metal letters, painted gold, are hung from the wall on their framework, redundant and silent.
