Food waste

I don't mean to come over all "preachy" but the subject of food waste always upsets me. Our local paper has a little article this week reminding us to plan carefully to avoid wasting 1/5th of the food and drink we buy during the Christmas period. I'm pretty thrifty with food, today I made a huge pot of soup that we'll have for lunches this week and it was made from bits and pieces left over from last week's shopping. It would never have entered my head to consider those left overs as waste.
