Not Tonight
I got fed up with the starlings arriving mob-handed and driving the minions away from the bird feeders so I decided to treat them to new ones which do make it difficult, if not impossible, for the starlings to get to. These arrived today and I immediately put them up. Which caused the minions to fly off to the large bush a few feet away. They were twittering (in the correct use of the word, not fiddling with miniature mobile phones. That would be silly. Or amazing.) away in a volume I hadn't heard before, their little faces wide-eyed and beaks open saying “what the …... is that?”.
Occasionally one would be pushed out of the bush to investigate but would only take a wide berth and not approach them at all. The robin, meanwhile, positioned himself underneath as he usually does, waiting for the crumbs to drop. He spent most of the time looking at his watch, tapping his foot and generally staring round wondering where the food servers were.
I'm sure tomorrow the minions will overcome their terror.
Best of all, the starlings were thoroughly peed off. Oh, yes. Very much.
The feeding station has only been up for 18 months but, as you can see, it has become badly corroded. About the only disadvantage to living next to a grumpy ocean. I might try to build a replacement, I've got so much old wood lying around.
