Incredible!

Thank you so much Paola for sharing a picture of this really stunningly beautiful place a few days ago.
I decided as the weather was so lovely today ( bright and crisp and cold) I would take a quick trip out and this is where I ended up!
This is the cloister in the Watts cemetery in Compton near Guildford in Surrey.
The Watts chapel, which is on the same site, on Budburrow Hill in Compton is Grade 1 listed and absolutely amazing!
This Arts and crafts masterpiece is built in red brick and decorated with Terracotta tiles in designs that leave you astounded.
In November 1895 Mary Watts (1849 - 1938) began to run Thursday evening classes instructing the local villagers how to model terracotta tiles from local clay. These tiles were decorated with the symbolic patterns she had designed for the chapel, and adorn the walls to this day. Inside it is beautifully painted and equally exquisite.
The cemetery surrounding the chapel has recently been given Grade 11 listing which will safeguard it for future generations. It contains many interesting gravestones, many in terracotta, and this beautiful red brick cloister.
Mary dedicated this amazing chapel 'to the loving memory of all who find rest near it's walls, and for the comfort and helpof those to whom the sorrow of separation remains'
