Okel Tor Mine

What can I say! I'm having two of those days when I can't make up my mind - but going with instinct not rationality! So the one that this is all about is now here! I prefer the one with the birds/leaves!!!

This is a walk at the other end of the village - through the woods and next to the river, with the derelict mine buildings poking out of the trees and shafts reaching into the sky. It is just downstream from Morwellham Quay where the BBC series "Edwardian Farm" was filmed! I have taken Kess here many times - and have so many phtographs, but something else always makes the blip! So today it is the mines turn!
Okel Tor is acknowledged by English Heritage to be one of the best surviving 19th century tin mines nationally. The mines worked from 1840s-1890 producing: Copper, Arsenic, Lead, Pyrite & Tin from shafts. It is both an Ancient Monument and World Heritage Site!
As can be seen, nature is reclaiming it and there are trees growing inside and in fact its got more ivy covering it than on the outside! Also the debris from decades of fallen leaves are successfully burying it as can be seen from the leaf mound creeping up the back window!
Kess of course cares nothing for this piece of local history - just wants me to throw his ball! Which I did just to keep him out of shot!!
Decided I may do a series on a thursday to coincide with the derelict thursday! Just maybe not every Thursday!
P.S. It was nearly this one as the birds look as if they are leaves blown off the tree! But it's the mines turn! I am trying to be decisive but I think tummy bug is clouding my judgement!

My stomach is still playing up and is actually worse today and like it was when it started nearly a week ago! So although my friend is still in hospital - no visits from me! Odds on whose pains will get better first! At least I have Kess to cuddle for the next 4 days whilst her owners go on their Honeymoon to Barcelona!
