Ruairi

I popped into the office next door this morning to chat with my colleague Ruairi, who is a marine hydrodynamicist at Lews Castle College UHI. He models wave energy potential in near-shore environments and has a couple of buoys fitted with sensors bobbing up and down off the west coast of the Outer Hebrides. He tells me that he recorded "average" waves of 25-30 metres yesterday! (Yes, you read that correctly! That's 82-98 feet high) The waves were smashing off the village headland to a height of 45m (that's 147 feet high for the non-metric). Not surprisingly, Ruairi was on the national TV news last night talking about wave energy in laymans language. In any language, those are BIG waves!
