You are never too old for Paddington!

No guesses as to where we were this afternoon. A funny, loveable film which suits all ages. Adults will appreciate the subtle humour and the moments that provoke a degree of sadness.

The audience comprised of all ages, from the little girl who had patiently sat through 30mins of adverts / trailers and asked “when is Paddington coming on”, to the elderly lady shouting at some eating crisps “who was making so much noise that she couldn’t hear the film”!!!

I enjoy the cinema these days, but as a child I wouldn’t go. My first experience was a trip with the Brownies to see Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs when I was about 7yrs old. When the wicked step-mother instructed the villains to cut out Snow White’s heart and bring it to her in a box, I decided that it was my time to leave. I told Brown Owl that I was going and got the bus home!!! Thinking back she must have been a bit concerned, but could do nothing about it.

Yes 7yr olds did travel by bus unaccompanied in those days and were perfectly safe!! I lived in Carlisle, knew my way around and was confident. It was days before TV and exposure to all the information kids get from infancy these days.

It wasn’t until Elvis, Tommy Steele and other singers appeared in films that I started to enjoy the cinema. I’m showing my age here!!!

R has never had a Paddington Bear. They were so horrendously expensive when she was little (no cheap look-alike imports in those days,) so she had all sorts of homemade animals and toys!! Some things don’t change do they?
