Weather bomb ahead
The city sky was dramatically leaden ahead at 11.30 am as I walked up Albion Street. However, from the south a bright low sun illuminated the Livingstone Tower, throwing dramatic reflected light on nearby buildings. It was not unlike a scene from a New York cops and robbers movie and I was half expecting to witness a car chase at least! However, the streets were largely deserted, with most shoppers deterred from coming into the city by dire warnings of the 'weather bomb' exploding over Scotland today. However, apart from coastal services, transport does not appear to be greatly affected by the gusting winds and downpours.
The Livingstone Tower is a notable landmark with its high position on the drumlin of Rottenrow. It is among the earliest high-rise commercial buildings to go up in the city centre dating from the early 1960s. It's now used by the University of Strathclyde but has almost reached the end of its useful life.
