Wood

In the centre of the village, next to the church, is Church House. It is a Grade II listed building from the 14th C; timber framed with daub infill. It is lovely and is also where one buys logs. Whenever I drive past it reminds me of the logging yards that are found in most alpine villages and the neat stacks of logs against the walls of houses across Bavaria, Switzerland and Austria. Today I called in for logs and to have a chat with Rita who owns the house and sells the logs that her sons now cut after the death of her husband a year ago. Then to the supermarket where I enjoyed the Doobie Brothers in my earphones to drown out the voices demanding that anyone who leaves a trolley across the aisle should be locked up. I lingered in the frozen aisle but couldn't see anything I fancied.

Very late night last night so it'll be pizza, wine and an early night tonight.
