The World Upstairs
Today the world outside is not very nice, although so far it is not as bad as the red top papers would have us believe. Here, unlike the Hebrides, we are often protected by the island of Ireland.
But the wind and rain led me to search for a blip elsewhere. It is just upstairs but I like to think it is one of the parallel universes that my physicist friends tell me of.
Some years ago, in the days when I was disabled, we had a Swiss layout model railway with mountains and bridges and cable cars. Then along came grandchildren and it soon became obvious that four year olds do not mix well with expensive miniature engines made in Germany. Steady speeds round curves of track do not fit in with their ambitions.
So it was all sold to enthusiast. Pictured above is its replacement made of course from Lego. It has the great virtue that when the children break something they have the educational challenge of rebuilding it.
Oh, and you will understand that our house is popular with the under tens. They will soon be here.
