Yellow Pohutakawa

Arrived at the cottage to find the sunny side of the tree out in flower. This colour is not very common in the South Island. All Yellow trees are descended from a pair foundgrowing on Motiti Island in the Bay of Plenty in 1040 - it was propagated as a garden plant and spread around the countrry. The tree is alive with Tui and Bellbirds - I spent two days in high winds trying to get a nice Blip, just hopeless....flitting birds and swaying branches....but lovely music !
