The only notable thing L and I did today was go for our dental cleaning and checkup appointments and since I’m assuming you wouldn’t have enjoyed a blip of the inside of my mouth, we popped over to our neighbourhood pond on the way home to see if we could find anything more interesting.

L took some cool shots of the egrets and ducks while I captured some bits of plants (why not?). However, just as we were about to leave, L noticed a Great Blue Heron standing on the roof of one of the houses next to the pond. When it leapt onto a huge pine tree, L very generously handed me his camera as it had our telephoto lens on it. (This turned out to be an even more selfless act than I'd realized as, on returning home, we found that the VR switch had accidentally been turned to 'off' and none of the lovely shots L had just taken were quite in focus.)

I stalked the heron as it strolled around on the tree and gave me several great silhouette-type poses. I love the signature hunch, wispy feathers and outstretched foot in this one. I’ll never know how those extra-long, spindly legs with the odd-angle-bending knees can hold up such a huge bird.

This shot is dedicated to Leejohnaire, with much gratitude!
