Very TardyBlip #1. Thoughts and memories

“In keeping silent about evil, in burying it so deep within us that no sign of it appears on the surface, we are implanting it, and it will rise up a thousand fold in the future. When we neither punish nor reproach evildoers, we are not simply protecting their trivial old age, we are thereby ripping the foundations of justice from beneath new generations.”
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

I remember as a child being told that at Christmas time if you lit a candle and placed it on the windowsill the light would shine out and show the world you were thinking about those who were suffering or far from home.
I remember as a teenager my father encouraging me to read Animal Farm quickly followed by The Gulag Archipelago. I struggled to understand how some people and systems could impose such brutality and control over others and for this to be so hidden from sight - an awful silence. It was at that time I read Anne Franks Diary.
I remember asking my father endless questions as to the why, how and what ... I couldn't understand.
