A fine day in the Cowichan river estuary
This spot is called "Green Point" it is a rocky out crop where the house sits. It is one of the oldest First Nations sites in the valley. There would have been dwellings here of many different types and sizes over the centuries, Chief Tzouhalem lived here. I'm not sure of the name connected today, but they would belong to the Clem Clem group, their longhouse is close by. All the salmon would have to go right by their "doorstep" to go up river.
Later, while I was standing on some marshy ground in the tall grass at the edge of the main channel, there was a lot of blowing and sputtering close by, I parted the reeds and looked down on a couple of sea lions floating down the current trailing salmon skin.....they were having a good feed.
