Virtually tripping

Neither the planned trip to the Mynd or Dunstable was possible today. Instead I ended up taking a couple of unplanned virtual trips instead. Far easier.

It had been a little while since my visit to the Centre for Cimputing History here in Cambridge so it seemed an opportune moment to pop back. I'm glad I did!

The Domesday system (pictured) was up and running so I satisfied a long held wish to have an explore of the 'national' disk. Google Streetview was invented way back in 1986. There probably isn't anywhere else in the UK or World there is still a functioning system - at least not one you can try.

Another more recent innovation to try was the Occulus Rift demo system. My first VR experience. The roller coaster had me teetering on motion sickness. For the bungee shot I ripped the headset off in under ten seconds before the real world started spinning! Calmed down with the butterflies at a Tuscan villa.

Pretty cool, go visit and allow a couple of hours meandering physical and otherwise ...
