Love Your Mountain Day

A good long bike ride today which included a climb up Mt Eden. On arriving at the base I found the road closed to vehicles (not to bikes and walkers/runners though) as this was "Love Your Mountain Day". This included a once a year public access to the grounds of Government House at the foot of the hill, so of course I went to have a look. Amazing gardens and lawns, very peaceful despite the number of visitors, and lots of birds, particularly tuis. I was quite taken by the massive mature trees, the lovely shapes of the pohutukawas and some of the spaghetti-like root systems.
