Silent Night

Friends are lighting up their homes and hearts to bring
the Festive Season, with hues all set for joyful carolling -
and how I ache to hear your song, annoying
me with 'Stille Nacht' in early June
(oh Dad, must you sing?)
But now when windows flicker bright
with gaudy tinsel, twinkling light,
I have no heart to hear the song -
your gentle baritone is gone
and find that drab is more the thing
to wrap my melancholy in.
