On the Rails

A chilly start at minus 4 as we left Pickering this morning. Our destination was the York Park Run.

It always surprises us how few people seem to be around as we warm up. Then with five minutes to go runners suddenly appear. This is taken just a few minutes before 9am when the run stars. Over 300 runners this morning and it was good to meet a number of orienteers and their families.

In this photograph you can just see York Minster on the right horizon peeping over the trees. The frosty grass is the racecourse and the runners are using the service track that is used by the vehicles carrying the cameras on race day. The Knavesmire used to be the location of public executions with the remains being displayed on nearby Micklegate Bar.

The difficulty today was how many layers to wear. A good start to the day.
