I wanted to go to the Addo Elephant National Park today to return a beautiful ceramic teapot I had bought at the shop, and which cracked the second time I used it. Good excuse to go to my favourite place - so Sister M and I set off early this morning, hoping for the odd photo opportunity as well!
We were travelling along a loop road where we have had previous good sightings when we came across a large elephant herd in front of us, stretched across the road and happily feeding from the bushes on the sides as they moved very slowly forward. After 45 mins of inching along behind them, and being charged (playfully I think!) by a naughty teenage elephant whenever we got too close, we decided to turn around and retrace our steps. A few kms down the road we came across this smaller herd in the road and my heart sank...wondering if we would ever get my teapot to the shop!!
Fortunately they moved to the side and quietly went on their way!
We didn't have many sightings today, but that happens sometimes - it was still good to be there.
