Mother-in-law's Camphor Chest
Bought by father-in-law while he was in the China Seas in the early 1950's and shipped back to England in a huge crate courtesy of the Royal Navy.
Made from some exotic far eastern hardwood it looks a bit teaky, and lined with camphor wood.
The carving on the lid is of a water carrier being forced off the track by a couple of toffs and falling over, spilling his water jars.
Presumably an old Chinese proverb in there somewhere. (The rich don't give a fig about the working man perhaps?).
The camphor wood lining still has a wonderful aroma after well over 60 years.
