Hat

5years 46days

Katie's taken to wearing her festive hat almost everywhere. She was a bit put out that she's not allowed to wear it during inside class "only when it's outside time". I've had the first singing of her angel song for the nativity today, she's got it sussed and sounds very cute.

She came home with a stack of work today- 2 new books (both of which offended her in their level but there we go. It's progress that there's extension work for her) and a sheet about one of them and two poems to read. She liked the poems and really enjoyed the rhythm of one of them particularly. We have recently been exploring poems together, we have a couple of lovely children's poetry books, so the suggestion from her teacher of looking up more poems together for her to bring in pleased her. She was telling me today about the gigantic snowflake the Foundation children have been making ready for the Christmas Tree festival on Friday. We can see it from the window at pickup. Its incredible. It really is gigantic and incorporates a lot of paper mache. She was explaining to me today how her and Poppy did their balloons- "we did the first layer of paper, then it dried and we did the next one and it dried then we had to do it with the blue and green. We were excellent at it". I really cant wait to see their faces during the tree assembly on Friday when we walk across the stage!

Swimming tonight. Here follows a gushy, proud mamabear moment so look away now if that offends! Today was assessment day. After 7 weeks in grade 4, my baby girl who still can't even touch the bottom of the pool has passed the grade and will move into grade 5. I'm very very thrilled for her. She's worked extremely hard to get this. Grade 4 requires "effective" stroke technique for the crawls and breaststroke rather than "basic", as well as increased distances, and butterfly kicks. The improvement in her technique has been noticeable the last couple of weeks. Grade 5 brings double the distances and full butterfly. It also brings the start of ASA law turns. This grade will be a learning curve for mummy as I'm absolutely clueless about how to do both those. My five year old is a better swimmer than I am. Oh my days!!
