Flotsam and Jetsam.

Flotsam is floating wreckage of a ship or its cargo.
Jetsam is part of a ship, its equipment, or its cargo that is purposely cast overboard or jettisoned to lighten the load in time of distress and is washed ashore.

Both can be legally reclaimed by its rightful owner.

This turtle was rescued from a box beside a bin, the 'free to good home' type of box that people who can't be bothered to go to the charity shop leave out in the rain.

I suppose that makes him Jetsam, which is a pretty good name for a turtle if you ask me.
