Crossing the road safely
(Apart from the cans)
I had a disturbing experience on St Ann's Villas tonight. Turning up there in the dark two young men (I guess about 18), shot right in front of me, no where near a junction or crossing and without warning causing me to emergency stop. No one was injured and fortunately the van behind me managed to stop abruptly too.
Apart from shock at the random act of lemming-like stupidity their general behaviour continued to baffle me.
The leading boy was wearing mid thigh white shorts and continually glanced over his shoulder as if attempting a try in a rugby match.
I felt like I was inadvertently the participant in a game where, if my reflexes and brakes had not been top notch, someone might have died.
Feeling slightly shaken I pulled over a little way up the road. In that time rush hour had started and the traffic slower. Our man at the crossing (despite the sensory impairment) was doing the right thing.
