A working forest

I was at Kilfinan Community Forest in Tighnabruaich today, the first time since I opened their poly tunnel over three years ago.

It is now quite obviously a successful working forest with some great projects on site including a sawmill and firewood supplies plus plans for house building and for a new hydro scheme. The community allotments, developed out of the poly tunnel are also doing very well.

There was a persistent drizzle whilst we walked up the hill in the fading light and the spectacular view to Bute was almost completely wiped out by the rain. But looking down to their welcoming community space which they have built from their own timber (it is the little building with the lit window which you can see best in the large version ) it was obvious how much they are doing and intend to do.
