Chez Nous, An Evening with Elektra

{ b a c k - b l i p from Saturday November 29, 2014 }

Though only an hour's drive north, it's been a long while since I've traveled into Vancouver, BC thus making tonight's trip to hear the Elektra Women's Choir an extra special treat.

Elektra, directed by Morna Edmundson (pictured) and one of North America's premier women's choral groups, shared the stage this evening with their guests A Touch of Brass (an outstanding Canadian brass ensemble that has performed several times with my choral group, as well) and the Eric Hamber Women's Chorale, an auditioned group of 30 girls, grades 10-12 from the Eric Hamber Secondary School in Vancouver.

The evening's program included two world premieres: Winter's Grace, by Ed Henderson of Vancouver, and a treble voicing, dedicated to Elektra, of Ola Gjeilo's Northern Lights. Along with solo performances by the brass ensemble, Elektra's voices filled the hall with both classic and contemporary pieces, and filled my heart with awe and inspiration. Bravo!
