Advent Sunday 2014

Wachet auf, ruft uns die stimme

J S Bach composed this Cantata in Leipzig in 1731. He intended it for the 27th Sunday after Trinity - a Sunday that rarely exists in any year because it needs Easter to be very early! However, because of the strong Advent motif that is when it is usually employed nowadays - in Advent.

"Wake, awake, for night is flying,"
the watchmen on the heights are crying;
"Awake, Jerusalem, arise!"
