Uncle Eddy's Beadspread

Uncle Eddy, my paternal grandmother's little brother, died in 1940. He suffered from severe epilepsy, and could not work a regular job. My granny taught Eddy to knit, and he was still working on this cotton thread, counterpane bedspread when he drowned in the Neponset River at Quincy, Massachusetts, at age 26. He was enjoying a boat outing, and then when his companions turned around, he was gone. It was assumed that he was taken by a sudden gran mal siezure and fell overboard.

Everyone who knew Edward John Calhoun (1914-1940) either loved him or liked him, and all were very sorry to lose him. His handiwork kept me nice and warm during this visit.
