Heimat

I'm preoccupied with the German series Heimat at the moment. Each episode begins like this: a pile of family photographs sifted through and commented on by an incidental character in the drama. It's the most original and engaging 'previously on...' method I've ever seen. And the series itself is wonderful - lyrical, unpretentious, poetic, old-fashioned storytelling, and totally complelling.
