Where I went today
The excellent Imaging Warehouse (Permajet etc) Open Day. I mostly use their papers - the range is astonishing. They also offer an excellent profiling service - I haven't used it before, but after talking to them I plan to try it (I have a Spyder system for generating profiles myself, but actually I find that the standard profiles provided by paper suppliers are usually better than the ones I produce myself!).
An extra at the event this year was a workshop, with Chris Bradbury using studio lights to shoot a model. I'm not a people photographer, so I was not sure about booking on this, but I'm very glad that I did, as the information about lighting was excellent. I suppose for those who had gone with their cameras hoping to get some pictures there might have been some disappointment that Chris was using strobes, not continuous lighting, so there was really very little chance to take photos during and after the session, and personally I'd have found it useful if he had shot tethered to the computer, so that the images he was taking were visible to the audience. But these are minor niggles - I really enjoyed the session, and it was more useful than I thought it would be. I should add that the session started with an excellent slideshow, with some brilliantly conceived and executed images, and work in Photoshop.
Most of the attendees seems to turn up in fairly ordinary cars (I suppose a Range Rovers fall into that category for many people, even if not for me!), but at least one person arrived, and left, more ostentatiously!
My more modest transport (a Mini) is just out of shot - if I'd had the time to get into position I'd have included it in the shot.
I think I already have tomorrow's shot planned, based on a program on the radio later this evening (assuming I can locate the necessary things to produce what I plan).
Oh - should add that although they had their own Epson printers on display, they were let down yesterday by the supplier who was due to be at the event (they emailed attendees yesterday to warn them of this). Perhaps worse was that Fujifilm just did not turn up on the day - disappointing for everyone, including X-T1 owners like myself and another chap I talked to, who also had an X-T1. As far as I could tell, Imaging Warehouse (and others) were not too surprised by the failure of the rep to turn up ... I think that the term 'chocolate teapot' was used by someone in terms of his reliability, such a pity as their cameras are excellent.
