Shell of Buchenwald

Today I thought I would practice getting a well defined shot. My Shell dates back many years from a visit to Weimar. Weimar is one of my favourite German cities and I have visited it many times. During one visit my friend, Mary, asked me to go with her to Buchenwald Memorial which is set in beautiful countryside about five miles outside Weimar. She had been fascinated by photographer Margaret Bourke-White’s photographs of the liberation of Buchenwald and wanted to see the place for herself. The Memorial is today’s reminder of the Buchenwald Concentration Camp of Nazi-Germany times, and stretches for kilometres. Most of the original Camp has been razed to the ground, but there are still some buildings as reminders of the atrocities that occurred there. It is a visit I will never forget. The only thing I brought back from our visit was this bleached Snail Shell.
