Put out your bats..

With only intermittent Internet in my Adelaidean home, I'm back blipping. As I visited the State Library of South Australia today, taking in its traditional and modern cultural wonders - across town a tragedy was unfolding.

Young Aussie cricketer Phil Hughes was struck on the head by a travelling ball and, sadly, we now know the outcome.

I had planned to be a spectator at the magnificent oval this weekend, when Australia and India warmed up for their test match. It looks like that won't happen. I think I'll go anyway and pay my respects.

In a worldwide outpouring of love for the game and young Phil Hughes, cricket bats are being left out as a mark of respect. #putoutyourbats.
