"Stretcher-Bearers! Stretcher-Bearers!"

As I continue to research my Great Grandfather's part in WW1 I am following up my trip to Flanders' Fields last week with a little light reading.

I have a number of volumes of the H.W. Wilson works 'The Great War' which was written and published as the events unfolded.

Today I have been reading an account by a journalist who went to the front line so he could follow a wounded soldier from the trench all the way back to Blighty. It's an amazing contemporary account of every day heroism that would have been accepted as the norm.
