The princess thing
All the best princesses wear green, and carry a bow and arrow, right?
We were never going to do the princess thing. We were never going to refer to our daughter as a princess, nor encourage any form of self-identification as such. And we certainly weren't going to buy any princess dresses. And yet, here we are...
Littler G has received her first (and presumably not last) invitation to a "x and princess" party - this time the "x" is superheroes, but if big brother's experience is anything to go by, there'll be plenty of pirate and princess parties and the like to come. Despite her initial decision to go as Buzz Lightyear, she decided that actually she'd really like to go in a princess dress... And I found it hard to argue. There aren't a huge amount of female superhero characters for her to want to imitate after all - and those that there are don't come with costumes that I'd be happy putting my 4 year old in. So a princess it is.
But I refused to buy pink or Disney.... hence the green. Thankfully, she loves it. She's just trying to decide if she'd rather be Merida or Princess Fiona (or, of course, just herself in a fancy green dress ;-) )
