Can cormorants fly?

I was beginning to wonder this after spending 30 minutes waiting for this guy to make a move. My question was answered when, after leaving him for 20 minutes to continue my walk, I returned and he was gone!

A spectacular morning full of fabulous photo opportunities, and photos (I hasten to add). However, due to a wrong lens decision this morning, and a computer threatening to crash this is today's offering.
