Miniature

This miniature painting is intriguing.

I THINK it is painted on ivory with an ivory and tortoiseshell frame.

How many CITES endangered species died for the work I do not know.

I have battled for hours to decipher the signature which you can see in the 3 o' clock position.

It looks like ISABEY which may mean that it is by Jean-Baptiste Isabey (1767 - 1855) a renowned French miniaturist.

Inherited from my parents, I have absolutely no background knowledge about it.

Too much rain and cold to go hunting for an outdoor blip!
