So, how do you photograph a whale?
An adult female southern right whale measures up to fifteen metres and weighs eighty tonnes. (For further perspective one single adult male's testicle weighs up to five hundred kilos). So taking a photograph from the shore was never going to be easy (and I consider going out in a dinghy to buddy up with whales to be invasive). Anyway, this was the best I could do. Most of the whale stays under the water and it's not usually clear what each visible bit is. Once in a while you do see a spectacular nose surge upwards, or the huge tail raised - but I wasn't lucky. This will have been a female with calf, not yet ready to move away from their breeding ground near Puerto Madryn.
BTW, it reminds me somewhat of a chocolate eclair.
