Beet
Sugar beet wasn't a cash crop until the middle of the last century when imports of cane sugar were disrupted by mans inhumanity to man.
Now, it seems, the whole of East Anglia grows it and at this time of year the country lanes are thick with tractors and trailers carting the lumpen roots to collection points, such as this. from here they go to be processed at factories, quietly steaming, in the East Anglian counryside.
