Beach profiling
This survey equipment is being used to profile the beach in Poole in order to facilitate a beach replenishment program.
Sand is dredged from Poole Harbour, one of the largest natural harbours in the world.
It is then brought to the various beaches in the Poole/Bournemouth area and spewed onto the beach.
During the winter of 2005/2006 approximately 1.1 million cubic metres (1.65 million metric tonnes) of sand dredged from Poole Harbour channels and approaches was used to replenish beaches at Swanage, Poole & Bournemouth to protect them from erosion.
