Contrast
Flitting about the stage like sparrows,
they wield the weapon that is
beauty with the grace of ballerinas.
Whirling a half inch off the ground,
as would a sycamore leaf
just about to hit the earth,
they flitter along showing
strength and weightlessness.
Slipping effortlessly
from toe to toe
they deliver their performance -
then abruptly stop.
The leash handler
lights a cigarette.
I don't think the red slippers
were his idea.
