Dull Day at Dodgy Crossing

Down at the local shops there are five streets feeding into this road within a hundred yards of each other. There is only one pedestrian crossing in the middle and one set of lights at the far end...
The traffic engineers seem to be at a loss as to how this area can be made safer - there are lots of dings, near misses and the occasional pedestrian is hit while trying to negotiate the four T-intersections.

I don't know if this sculpture has fixed any of the problems, but people seem to taking more care these days - I haven't been hit yet ;-)
