Detour-filled journey to Derbyshire

Yes, it was a fun journey! We left home at 10 am and arrived at 6.50 pm - a long day! We firstly had to leave the M25 as the junction with the M1 (6) was closed due to a bad accident. I worked out a country dodge that was actually rather nice - the photo shows one part of it. We rejoined at Junction 11 and the traffic was really slow moving due to roadworks. Then we had warnings that there had been another accident between Junction 20 and 21, so we did another detour. We left at Junction 19 and rejoined at Junction 21. By the time we'd also had a couple of pit stops for breaks and food, it was getting dark when we left the M1 to join a really complicated country route that Stuart had quickly worked out before we left. I had to navigate (using a book map as we don't have SatNav) for an hour as it turned out. We somehow didn't make any wrong turns! I said that there was no way I wanted to use that route again to get back to the M1 on the way home - could we find another one, please! :-)

When we arrived at our holiday home near Bamford, the owners had kindly put the lights on for us and left a list of helpful details (they'd had to go away for a couple of days, although other family was staying in their adjacent house). They'd also left a glass of wine in the fridge which was much needed! :-))
