Purple Rain
Adelaide's streets are awash with the magnificent purple-blue blooms of jacarandas (Jacaranda mimosifolia). They are at their peak now being late spring and early summer. As well as being superb street trees, jacarandas look stunning on their own as a specimen tree in an open lawn, (on a large block), where their fallen flowers form a colourful carpet of blue. We call it purple rain.
Lots of people think jacarandas are Aussie natives, but they’re not. They are native to Brazil, where they are deciduous. This shot was taken a couple of miles from where we live, where it is a warmer than up here.
