"the common SENSE"

Thursday: our day to pick up Fiona from school. Before coming home, we stopped at the Henry Gallery to see Ann Hamilton’s Exhibition, the common SENSE. There’s nothing wrong with your eyes, this is a very blurry photo but I thought it told the story the best - I only got a few seconds to take it and didn’t manage to set it right. ( would have been better with my phone…) The artist drew parts of the exhibition from the Burke museum of Natural History, the UW special collections libraries and the Henry’s costumes, textiles and photographs. It’s about animal and human relationships. there are rooms full, floor to ceiling, like this of scans of animal parts from the Burke collections on newsprint paper pads. Every visitor is allowed and encouraged to rip one off. the tablets at the top half of the walls can’t be reached. There is much about "reading" with pages to take away of quotes.. and a room full of garments made from furs and other animal parts (like harbor seal gut).... I don;t want to make this any longer, but there is some interesting info and some nice clear pictures on the link from the Henry above. I do have to say the the biggest attraction was the James Turrell skyspace to which we returned at least 5 times... (here's a good 5 minute Youtube video if you are interested in this artist....). All fun with a 4 year old....

Then we came home, did 12 minutes of gelli printing, 45 minutes of playing "school", ate dinner (sort of) and watched one slide tray of the slides we're trying to select to digitize --Fi's Dad is about 7 now so she's very interested in them and we get some good laughs. then home, never stopping talking. H and I had to sit on the couch and watch a video (end of season 3 of Homeland) before we could move again... or blip....
