Saints Training Ground
Southampton Football Club, currently ranking second in the Premiership, has unveiled its new Stapleford training ground and football academy which is set to be the envy of soccer clubs up and down the land.
The revamp, built on the outskirts of Southampton at Marchwood at a cost of £39 million is the inspiration of the late owner German-born Swiss businessman, Markus Liebherr and provides top notch training facilities for the team and youngsters in the Saints Academy and is a lasting legacy to the late owner who rescued the club from administration five years ago.
Since his death of a heart attack in 2010, his daughter Katherina has taken over his role at the Club.
It replaces old buildings, temporary accommodation and pitches which were constructed as the Club made its place in the Premier League.
The new facilities have been named as the Markus Liebherr Pavilion in his honour but Saints did not begin using the new facilities until just before the current season with new manager Ronald Koeman and a new first team squad subsequently displaying a storming opening to the Premier League to currently rank second, four points behind Premiership leaders Chelsea.
Next, the Club is planning to improve and extend the Academy facilities for young players.
