Fiddler on the lamp

Dotted around Stratford there are quite a few lamp-posts that have been donated by cities and countries all of the world. This one is outside the Swan Theatre and was donated by the State of Israel.

At the top of the lamppost, as if seated on the cross bar, are statues of a man with an ass's head (the character Bottom from Shakespeare's A Midsummer night's Dream) and a man playing the fiddle. Above the lamp is a statue of an owl (I couldn't fit that in - had the wrong lens on - or the lamp-post is in the wrong place!) The figures were cast in bronze in Israel before being sent to Stratford to be fitted to the post which had already been erected and was completed in 1990.

Technophobe and I had a really nice walk along the river side this afternoon along with Hector and Ziggy (which is when I took this photo) and we spotted a kingfisher down by Lucy's Mill, which was fantastic to see. Unfortunately he was too far away to get a decent photo, which is why I changed my lens, but then we didn't see him again. Now we know where he is we can re-visit sometime, with the "right" lenses on.
