Karnak Temple Hieroglyphics

After a late breakfast, late lunch and a day lazing by the pool, we headed off to the sound and light show in Karnak Temple - a 10 min taxi ride away. The temple itself is stunning, with very impressive pillars, intricate hieroglyphics and boasts the tallest obelisk in the world (I believe) at 29 metres. We and just 15 others gathered at the entrance and were guided round for 30 mins, subjected to very melodramatic voices recounting the story of the place and then seated in an arena to watch the last 30' of the show across the temple lake. The arena could easily host 2,000!

As a spectacle, it was a bit disappointing to be honest and confirmed once again that we prefer to see sites independently, being able to linger and walk on as we please, but many of the lighting effects were truly dramatic. Certainly worth doing especially as it let us have a day 'off' to enjoy the hotel facilities and use my new swimming cozzie!
