Gulls' gathering place

Wednesday
We returned from our week in Gran Canaria yesterday evening, and woke up this morning (Weds, I'm posting a day late!) to thick fog and cool temperatures. Though the fog had lifted a little by the time I got out late morning to go to the gym (to work off the vacation excess!), mist and gloomy conditions persisted all day. On my way to the gym I stopped by the river in Héricy to get a blip. This is a popular place for the gulls, mallards and swans to gather, probably because it's a common place for mothers or grandmothers with children to go feed them!
For those of you who follow my photo journal, you will be interested to know that our youngest daughter Laura, who has been serving with the Peace Corps in Macedonia for a little over two years, has now completed her service, and before returning to us in time for Christmas is now trekking in Nepal with a few friends from Peace Corps and some of their friends from the U.S. She flew out to Kathmandu last Wednesday, but today was the first day of her trek. This is a girl who when she was growing up was always the first one to be complaining when we were out walking or biking that she'd had enough and wanted to go back, assuming we managed to get her out for a walk or ride in the first place! How they can change! Fortunately one of her friends has a satellite tracking device so we can check their progress, and she will be able to send an occasional brief message, which she did at the end of today - they're about five hours ahead of us.
