Stevenson's Rocket???

Just at the 18 mile marker on the old railway line is another one of these quirky sculptures, this one with the old pot boiler seems to be an interpretation of Stevenson's Rocket and I love it. I think everyone that passes it loves it, the local children all race out on their bikes when they head out on the cycle path and climb on it and play on it. This is the kind of art I get, the kind of art you can touch and climb on and become involved with.

Mostly all of my peers left our little village, they are scattered, many of them to the furthest corners of our planet. I wish I had had the courage to leave too. I now know that had I done so I would have followed a totally different path, I think I would have followed a more creative path and I think have been more content...

It is funny how many of them filter back to the village especially at this festive period as many of their families still live in the village, its funny how they rave about the joy of being back in this place but so very often, very soon after leaving are very condescending in their views of this place and the people. I was lucky to be able to ramble unhindered as a child enjoying nature, learning and growing through experience and I am glad that the twins too will share this. The difference will be however that I will encourage the twins to aspire to more than our little village can offer and to view the world as their oyster but for now I will continue to watch then enjoy the freedom village life affords them and the joy of being able to enjoy art for its form, function and most of all fun...

I hope you enjoy
