Shadows
Loved the way the shadows of these autumn trees spilled across this road junction in our nearest large town of Brive la Gaillarde. We had gone there with our next door neighbours to lunch in the Bistrot Chambon, which is run by the owner of a Michelin-starred restaurant south of our village. The food was excellent, and we shall go again. We ordered a bottle of Bergerac wine called Rebus - a rebus being a puzzle where you decode a message consisting of pictures representing syllables and words. And that is all there was on the label - a sequence of pictures representing a phrase that we failed to decipher. Some crime writer, huh? I did, however send a Tweet to Ian Rankin to tell him that we were sitting in a French restaurant drinking Rebus. "Santé," came the reply, accompanied by a couple of smileys. We raised a glass to absent friends.
PS: The mystery of the "rebus" on the bottle's label has been solved. The images were... a sheep issuing a noise; an R; a group of playing cards and dice; a rat; and a K. Which, of course, spells Baaa R Jeux Rat K, or "Bergerac" (if you use French pronunciation).
